One of the most popular cuts of diamonds these days is the brilliant round. Modern brilliant round diamonds, often referred to as just round brilliant or brilliant round, are the result of extensive mathematical and empirical analysis. The cut that creates brilliant round diamonds was the front runner for many other cuts of diamond such as including ‘fancy cuts`, however the strictest standards are reserved for brilliant round diamonds only.

These days brilliant round diamonds consist of 58 sides of facets; with 33 on the crown of the stone and 25 on the pavilion. Often the girdle on brilliant round diamonds is faceted with 32, 64, 80 or 96 sides.
